5 Simple Ways to Be a Hero for Utica's Hungry

September is Hunger Action Month, but you can take these actions anytime.

Since it was founded by Feeding America in 2008, Hunger Action Month has been celebrated every September. It’s especially relevant this year as the pandemic continues putting more and more displaced workers and their families at risk of food insecurity. Plus, online and hybrid education this school year is throwing enough challenges at parents and kids without hunger being one of them. Fortunately, there are many ways you can help during this difficult time. Here are some ideas.

  • Hold a food drive at work, in your neighborhood, or with your civic or church group. Click this link to our website where you can get started.

  • Give your friends on social media a chance to help by creating a Facebook fundraiser for a personal cause. This article will show you how.

  • Make a direct donation to the Utica Food Pantry by text, online, or by mail. Click here and scroll to the bottom of the page for the links and addresses.

  • Volunteer your time and talents. Find out how by clicking this link.

  • Advocate with your elected officials by expressing your support for policies that will alleviate hunger and food waste. Use this directory to find contact information for your elected officials on both the local and national level.
