Filling Tables This Thanksgiving
Join us in blessing local families with comforting Thanksgiving dinners.
At last year's Thanksgiving event, volunteers gathered at Utica Fire Station Two to give bags of turkeys and side dishes to local people in need. This year will be a bit different.
The Utica Food Pantry is getting ready to provide turkeys with all the fixings to as many area families as possible this Thanksgiving holiday.
A Drive-Through This Year
The Thanksgiving giveaway brings together the Utica Fire Department and the Utica Food Pantry for the seventh straight year at Station Two (552 Bleecker Street) on Tuesday, November 24, 11:00am to 2:00pm. Due to social distancing precautions, this year’s distribution will be a drive-through like our giveaways this summer and fall. Registered UFP clients and clients from other local agencies will receive tickets in advance to redeem as they drive up.
“We have families with young children, single moms, the elderly and disabled, and they all need our help. We’re asking for donations to help feed needy families in our city,” said UFP Board President Russell Brooks.
Aiming for a Higher Goal
Last year 631 families enjoyed a fine Thanksgiving dinner through our giveaway. This year, with so many more people in need due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our goal is to raise that number to 750 turkey dinners.
We’re especially grateful to local corporate sponsors who plan to help fill each meal package this year. Hannaford’s Supermarkets will donate food items. Exyte (the contractor building the new Cree facility in Marcy) and Cree (our area’s newest employer) are sponsoring a month-long employee food drive to collect canned goods for the event. Barrett Paving Company is also hosting a fundraiser to purchase items for the drive.
A New Way to Give Coming Soon
We’re beyond grateful for their help, but we need you too! Please help make this holiday one to remember for a family in need by participating in our Virtual Thanksgiving Turkey Drive. We’re working on a new website to make it easier this year. You’ll be able to purchase a turkey and/or bag of groceries on the UFP’s new fundraising website, Uticagives.com. The website will be officially launched by the end of October. Sign up for our email newsletter here to receive a special email when it’s ready.
